About the Foundation
The Stollery Charitable Foundation was founded by Robert and Shirley Stollery in 1994. They believed it was important to support the community that had helped them achieve success. Their vision included the creation of the Stollery Children's Hospital and the Stollery Charitable Foundation.
The Stollery Charitable Foundation is a private family foundation that provides funds to local registered charities helping people in Edmonton and Kamloops, where members of the Stollery family reside. In limited circumstances (discussed under Funding Guidelines), the Foundation may consider providing funding to a national or international registered charity. The mandate of the Foundation is to improve the health and vitality of the local communities it serves while building the capacity of charitable agencies. The staff and directors of the Foundation work in cooperation and collaboration with other funding families and agencies to foster strength in the sector and to reduce duplication. The Foundation welcomes contact from other funding agencies seeking to partner in supporting local charities. The Foundation supports a wide range of projects. The areas of focus are health, social services (especially poverty reduction or poverty elimination projects), and education (including bursaries and scholarships for students attending post-secondary institutions). Other areas of interest include human rights and strengthening the charitable sector. Each year, the Foundation disburses income earned from endowed funds. It does not accept donations from the public, but it encourages donations by members of the public to the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation. |
